Learning to Wait on God

Here we are at the beginning of the New Year, expecting, looking and ready to forge ahead and we are faced with so much turmoil, angst, and worry. I know, we are to trust God, through it all but sometimes we just have to wait on God until our way is made clear.

But it can be difficult when it seems that everything around us is in turmoil.  Yes, we are to trust God, but it is worrisome when we are dealing with administration that is dealing with something every week, if not every day. Confusion, lies, deception, name calling, the list goes on and on, but what are we to do as believers, especially after we are looking to God for so much here are the beginning of the year.

I don’t know about you, but I am expecting GREAT THINGS in this new season, but with the raucous behavior that is going on in our country, it is easy to get distracted.  It is enough to keep you up at night.

But I’m writing you to encourage you today.  As you read this, I am reminded of Psalm 27:14. The psalmist reminds of to wait on the Lord and to be of good courage.  When we have good courage, we have an inner strength to face challenges, to confront difficult obstacles and to deal with difficult situations.

This isn’t the time to give up to the pressure of what is going on around us.  This isn’t the time to succumb to the pressure of offensive behavior and react in an erratic manner.  When we have good courage, we have a strength that propels us to gird yourself with the inner strength that has empowered you to get this far.  There is something on the inside that will propel you to keep pressing ahead.

So don’t give up.

And the Lord promises us that he will strengthen our heart.  God promises to strengthen our hearts because what we don’t want to succumb to a weakened heart.  When the heart becomes weak, physiologically, the heart fails.  And when the heart fails, we have to confront impending death. Spiritually, we don’t want to have heart failure.  When we realized that out of our heart flows the issues of life, we have to accept that everything that we believe, everything we stand on has the opportunity to be lost when our hearts fail. That is why scripture instructs us to guard our hearts.

When we don’t guard our hearts, we then have to deal with a wavering faith…but as we strive to and work towards being of good courage, the Lord will strengthen us. That is a promise that we must stand on as we face adverstity in life.  Whether we are in ministry, marriage, our finances are in disarray, or our children are confused, we have to stand in faith and allow the Lord to strengthen us. When we do, we can find the wherewithal to stand against everything that comes against us.

In the book of Psalms, it is also written that our flesh and our heart may fail, but God is the strength of our heart and our portion forever.

Heart failure is detrimental to the life of the believer.  Because when our hearts fail, we lose our foundation and the pulse of life that beats inside of us.  But here in the Psalms, even when our flesh and heart may fail, we have to look to God who promises that he will be the strength of our heart and our portion forever.

We can confess a lot, but when we dissect this scripture, we realize that with everything we have to face, life will get us down…so much so, our heart and our flesh WILL FAIL.  We just have to rest in the fact that God will strengthen us as we wait on him in challenging times.  He is our portion forever.

He is that part that makes us complete, that builds us up when we feel like we are failing.

But we also have to look at our attitude, because he said, I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.

Just what are you believing God for?  Do you believe you will see the goodness of the Lord in spite of everything going around you?  Will you keep your attitude in check…because if you don’t believe, your attitude can affect your belief system.

Will you believe God in this new season?  Will you trust God for everything you are waiting on?  Will you let him strengthen you when you get weak and your heart begins to fail?  Will you challenge yourself to trust God although times are tough?

The Lord instructs us to wait on him…trust in Him at all times.  Pour out your heart before him knowing that he is your refuge in times of trouble.  He promises you that he will strengthen you for every challenge that you must face.

So wait on him…
